Templates

One thing that really impresses me about the PowerFinish products is their uniqueness. Each template is different, and yet all are topic neutral. In other words, each template can be used for a wide variety of presentation topics and styles. Yet, when you purchase a volume of templates, you are not purchasing sets of templates in varying colors, but rather unique templates with unique graphical designs.

Each template contains a title slide design, a content slide design, and a print slide design. In addition, the background for the design is provided in JPG form. The slide designs are full graphic backgrounds, while the print slide designs are a graphical stripe down the left side of the slide, with the remainder of the background white. There are 3 volumes of templates available.

To quote the PowerFinish site, the template download "will include 50 templates in .pot (PowerPoint template) format, 150 .jpgs and help files in a single self executing install file."

Backgrounds

In addition to the template sets, PowerFinish also provides 3 volumes of backgrounds. Each set of backgrounds contains 334 backgrounds, saved as JPG files. The actual download comes as one self extracting install file. Each background is available for viewing as a sample slide by clicking on links on the backgrounds page. The backgrounds, like the templates, are unique, topic neutral graphics. These backgrounds are developed for PowerPoint use, but also work as graphics on websites and in print documents.

Are there restrictions on the use?

According to the license terms, the PowerFinish products may be used by a single user for any product not for sale. You may not distribute the products for use by others, nor may you sell the items. However, for non-sale uses, the graphics are provided royalty free. Studio F (the developer of PowerFinish) does ask that you provide a standard credit when you use their backgrounds on printed items. Items created for onscreen use or handout use only do not need to provide credit. Multi-user licenses are available by request from the company.

Final Decision?

I call this one a definite buy, providing you purchase one or more sets of the backgrounds or templates. While the individual template price is high, the set prices are more than reasonable. Buying the complete sets is a bargain, if you have the cash on hand and the disk space available for storage. You will be getting unique, complete graphics that will wake up your presentations. Combine this with PowerFinishes policy that the graphics may be used as is or as changed and you have a great deal!
